About AWS Generative AI Accelerator

The AWS Generative AI Accelerator is an annual program run by Amazon Web Services for startups building core generative AI technology. That includes foundation model training, fine-tuning tools, AI infrastructure, and agentic workflows. It is not a classic cash accelerator. AWS invests no money and takes no equity. Each selected startup receives up to $1 million in AWS credits, plus mentorship, go-to-market support, and access to AWS experts and partners.

The 2025 cohort had 40 startups chosen from thousands of global applications. AWS described the acceptance rate as under 2%. The selected companies came from North America, Asia Pacific and Japan, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America. The cohort was announced October 7, 2025, kicked off in person at Amazon's Seattle headquarters on October 14, and finished with a final week at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas from December 1 to 4, 2025.

Earlier editions were smaller. The first cohort had 21 startups. In 2024 AWS tied the program to a $230 million commitment for generative AI startups and selected 80. Credits can be used across AWS compute, storage, and database services, including AWS Trainium and Inferentia2 chips. For founders who already run heavy training or inference workloads on AWS, the credit amount is the main draw.

What AWS Generative AI Accelerator looks for

AWS says it weighs founding team experience, clear industry use cases and target market, product maturity, and evidence of traction. For the 2025 cohort it selected startups on a blend of stand-out ideas, technical readiness, and interview performance. The focus is on core generative AI technology: pre-training or fine-tuning models, building AI infrastructure, and agentic workflows. Startups that will spend heavily on AWS compute get the most from the credits. Applicants from most regions are accepted, and the 2025 cohort spanned five regions.

How the AWS Generative AI Accelerator program works

The program runs for eight weeks in a hybrid format. It opens with an in-person kickoff at Amazon's headquarters in Seattle. Most of the middle weeks are virtual sessions with AWS technical experts, executives, and partners, covering model building, infrastructure, scaling, and go-to-market.

The program closes with an in-person final week at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas, where startups meet customers, investors, and AWS teams. Each startup gets business and technical mentorship and go-to-market support. The main financial perk is up to $1 million in AWS credits, usable on compute, storage, database services, and AWS Trainium and Inferentia2 chips.

There is no cash investment and no equity taken.

  3. 3Show that you build core generative AI technology, such as models, fine-tuning, infrastructure, or agentic systems, not only a thin wrapper.
  4. 4Give evidence of founding team experience, a clear use case and target market, product maturity, and traction, which AWS lists as selection factors.
  5. 5If shortlisted, prepare for an interview. AWS says interview performance is part of selection.

AWS Generative AI Accelerator FAQ

When is the AWS Generative AI Accelerator application deadline?+

AWS Generative AI Accelerator has not announced its next deadline yet (Annual cohort; applications usually open in June and close in July, with the cohort announced in the fall). We check the official site every month and update this page when dates are published.

Does AWS take equity in the Generative AI Accelerator?+

No. The AWS Generative AI Accelerator does not invest cash and does not take equity. Startups receive up to $1 million in AWS credits, mentorship, and go-to-market support. The credits cover AWS compute, storage, and database services, including Trainium and Inferentia2 chips.

How competitive is it?+

Very. AWS selected 40 startups for the 2025 cohort from thousands of global applications and described the acceptance rate as under 2%. Earlier cohorts had 21 startups and then 80 in 2024. Selection includes an interview stage, and AWS says interview performance counts toward the final decision.
