About Dubai Future Accelerators

Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA) is run by the Dubai Future Foundation. It started in 2016. It is not a classic startup accelerator.

Dubai government entities and private partners publish specific challenges, and startups and scale-ups from anywhere apply with a solution. Selected teams come to Dubai, work with the partner on a pilot scope and pitch a final proposal to the partner's decision makers. If the partner likes it, the next step is a commercial agreement.

DFA states that it is a 0% equity program. It covers flights and accommodation for up to two team members during the residency. There is no cash investment.

Past partners include Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Police and Dubai Municipality. The RTA used DFA to explore Hyperloop technology for public transport. Results from earlier editions are public.

In the third edition in 2017, 72% of companies signed a memorandum of understanding with their government partner by the end of the nine-week program. In the 2019 cohort, 71% signed agreements to run pilots. The most recent challenge on the DFA site was the second cycle of the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence's Future of AI in Government Services accelerator.

It offered eight weeks of sponsored accommodation and travel, and applications closed on 29 August 2025.

What Dubai Future Accelerators looks for

DFA selects companies whose technology answers a specific challenge set by a government or corporate partner. Solutions are judged on how innovative they are and whether they can run as a pilot in Dubai. Because the goal is a commercial agreement, applicants are usually companies with a working product rather than idea-stage teams. DFA is open to startups and scale-ups from any country. The team must be able to send members to Dubai for the residency.

How the Dubai Future Accelerators program works

DFA describes nine steps. A government or private partner sets a challenge. Startups apply with a solution, and the partner and DFA select the most innovative ones.

Selected teams are invited into a cohort. In the Hello Dubai step, up to two team members fly to Dubai for an in-house residency, with flights and accommodation paid. In discovery, teams meet the partner and map opportunities.

They then agree a pilot scope and work on it with the partner's team. At the end of the cohort, each team pitches its final proposal to the partner's leaders. The partner picks the proposals it wants to move forward with, which can lead to a commercial contract to scale the solution in Dubai.

Cohorts have run about eight to ten weeks. The 2020 edition used two phases, with a four-week virtual first phase.
