Editor Notes on Willow

## Willow review: good privacy defaults, plan details to confirm

We have not used Willow ourselves. This review is based on Willow's pricing page, security page, privacy policy, help center and App Store listing, all checked in November 2026. SaaSOffers members get 3 months of Willow Pro free (up to 20 seats) with code WILLOWMP3.

The iPhone app showed 4.6 out of 5 from about 1.1K ratings on the US App Store when we fetched it on November 7, 2026.

## What Willow is

Willow is voice dictation for Mac, Windows and iPhone, sold by Willow Care, Inc. You hold a hotkey, speak, and formatted text appears at your cursor in any app. Willow says 150,000+ professionals use it. Android is listed as coming soon.

A second product, Willow Scribe, drafts from your intent. You say what you want to reply, and it writes the message from what is on screen, or edits text you highlight.

## What it does well

**It formats while you talk.** Help articles describe lists from spoken sequences, greeting and closing on separate lines in email, and mid-sentence corrections. Say "no wait" and change a time, and Willow updates the earlier text. Filler words come out on their own.

**The free plan looks generous.** The pricing page lists unlimited use of the Frontier Mini model with no credit card. Wispr Flow's free desktop plan has a 2,000 word allowance and blocks new dictation above 5,000 words a week. Willow's own pages disagree on this point, which we cover below.

**The privacy defaults are sensible.** Private Mode is on by default. Willow says it then keeps no audio, transcripts or edits, and transcript history stays on your device. The privacy policy, last updated August 5, 2026, says service providers are bound by zero data retention and may not train on your content. Sharing text to improve Willow is opt-in and excludes audio.

**HIPAA is self-serve.** You can sign a Business Associate Agreement in the app under Settings. The help article says this is open to individual users, clinics and larger teams.

**Team rollout is simple.** Admins can invite up to 200 addresses at once, and new teammates' names are added to shared terms automatically. Individual Pro subscriptions pause after a team upgrade, so nobody pays twice.

**Well-known users back it.** Willow publishes testimonials from Alexis Ohanian, Tomer London and Max Mullen. These are vendor-picked quotes, so treat them as marketing.

## Where it falls short

**Plan names don't match across pages.** The pricing page shows Pro and Business. A July 9, 2026 help article shows Individual Pro and Team Pro at $12 per user with a 3 seat minimum. The Business card reads "/mo" with no per user label.

**Team tools start at Business.** Centralized billing, the shared dictionary and the dashboard sit on Business at $35 or $28, per the comparison table. If Business is per seat, that is more than double Pro. Wispr Flow includes team billing on its $15 Pro plan with no seat minimum.

**SSO is Enterprise only.** Wispr Flow offers SSO on Growth at $23 a month. Willow's SSO has no public price.

**No Android.** Wispr Flow and Superwhisper both list Android.

**Offline details are spread out.** The homepage lists offline dictation "powered entirely by your device". Willow's blog says it is available through settings on Mac and iOS, and Windows uses cloud processing. We found no help article naming the plan.

**The free limit is unclear.** The pricing page says unlimited. The App Store listing says "a weekly word limit". The help article says 2,000 words per week. The pricing table also marks iOS as not included on Free, though the App Store app is free to download.

**Encryption detail is short.** The homepage says "end-to-end encryption". The security page describes encryption in transit and at rest. We found no technical detail on the end-to-end claim, so ask Willow if your security review needs it.

**The iPhone app has a tracking entry on its App Store label.** The developer-reported label lists Usage Data as possibly used for tracking, and Usage Data and Advertising Data linked to you. It does not list audio or dictated text. Willow's privacy policy says it does not sell personal information.

**App Store reviews mention bugs.** One April 2026 review says the app crashes constantly. Reviews from November and December 2025 raised the microphone staying on in the background. Willow replied that the audio session needs to stay active on iOS, and that users can set a timeout or turn it off. One reviewer later said the issue seemed fixed. Other reviewers praise the app. We have not reproduced any of this.

**No published refund terms.** The terms of service, dated April 30, 2025, cover auto-renewal and cancellation and say nothing about refunds.

## Claims we could not test

Willow says it has 3x the accuracy of built-in dictation, shows text in as little as 200ms, makes you 4x faster and gives back 5 hours a week. None of these comes with a published method on the pages we read. Run your own test with your accent, jargon and microphone. Basic is free, so that test costs nothing, although Basic uses the weaker model.

## Who should use it

Founders, sales staff and engineers who write all day on Mac or Windows and want to try dictation with a free plan first. A small team that does not need admin tools can run Pro.

Skip it if your team uses Android, needs SSO on day one, or wants a meeting notetaker. For meeting notes, look at [Otter.ai](/offers/otter-ai) or [Fireflies.ai](/offers/fireflies-ai).

## Our verdict

Willow has a clear job and a strong free plan on paper. The privacy defaults are good for a dictation tool. Buyers should confirm which plan covers team tools. With 3 free months, a 5-person team saves up to $225 and a 20-person team up to $900 at the $15 monthly price, if the code applies to monthly billing. That is enough room to test it on real work before paying. Confirm which plan your seats land on.
