About Greentown Labs
Greentown Labs is a nonprofit climatetech incubator. It describes itself as the world's largest climatetech and energy incubator. It runs two campuses: Greentown Boston at 444 Somerville Ave. in Somerville, Massachusetts, and Greentown Houston at 4200 San Jacinto St. in Houston. It is an incubator with paid membership, not a funded accelerator, and it does not publish an equity requirement for members.
Greentown started in 2011. Its 2026 overview reports more than 700 startups incubated and 280+ current members across the two hubs. Members rent desks, offices and lab and prototyping space, and they get access to Greentown's network of corporate partners, investors and experts. A membership committee at each incubator reviews applications, and the process usually takes less than a month.
Greentown also runs corporate-sponsored programs with set cohorts. In 2026 these included Go Make 2026 with Shell and Technip Energies, and Go Build 2026 with Amazon and the Global CO2 Initiative. Corporations also join as partners at tiers such as Terawatt Partner.
Member and alumni companies include Form Energy, the long-duration battery company, Fervo Energy, the geothermal developer, and Carbon Upcycling Technologies. Georgina Campbell Flatter is CEO. The old greentownlabs.com pages now redirect to greentown.org, but the organization still operates as Greentown Labs.
What Greentown Labs looks for
The main filter is climate impact. Greentown takes startups building climatetech and energy solutions, from batteries and geothermal to carbon removal, low-carbon materials and advanced manufacturing. Many members build hardware and need lab or prototyping space, which is what Greentown is set up for. A membership committee of Greentown staff from several departments makes the call. Greentown does not publish a stage requirement or acceptance rate. Corporate programs like Go Make add criteria tied to each sponsor's focus.
How the Greentown Labs program works
General membership has no fixed term or cohort. Startups apply, get approved by the membership committee of the Boston or Houston incubator and then rent the space they need, from desks to private offices and shared lab and prototyping areas. Members join a community of about 280 climate startups and get access to events, partner introductions and investor networks.
Greentown adds new members through the year; nearly 70 joined in the second half of 2025. On top of membership, Greentown runs corporate programs with defined cohorts and timelines, such as Go Make for manufacturing and Go Build. These programs pair startups with sponsors like Shell, Technip Energies and Amazon for pilots and technical work.
How to apply to Greentown Labs
- 1Choose the Greentown Boston (Somerville) or Greentown Houston incubator.
- 2Submit the membership application on the Greentown site with details on your climate technology, team and space needs.
- 3Take the intro call and campus tour if invited.
- 4Wait for the incubator's membership committee to decide; the process usually takes less than a month.

Startup perks after acceptance
