About Parallel18
Parallel18 is a global accelerator and investment platform in Puerto Rico. It is part of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust, a private nonprofit. It started around 2015 and has run 14 generations of its flagship P18 accelerator.
P18 is open to startups from any country and any industry. The goal is to use Puerto Rico as a base to grow into the US and Latin American markets. The current model invests $100,000 per startup through a SAFE.
That replaced an older mix of a $40,000 equity-free grant and a $20,000 SAFE. Gen.6 million in total.
The program starts with Phase Zero, four weeks of virtual evaluation for up to 30 startups. A selection committee then picks up to 18 for a 16-week program in Puerto Rico. A founder who leads the team must live on the island for those 16 weeks.
Graduates that keep operating from Puerto Rico can tap Parallel18 Ventures, which co-invests in alumni. Parallel18 also runs BioLeap, a life sciences incubator now on its fourth generation, and Xpand, a scale-up program. The alumni network covers more than 600 startups, according to its site.
As of October 2026, P18 is not taking applications. The site says applications reopen in 2027 and offers a waitlist for Gen. 15.
What Parallel18 looks for
P18 wants innovative, scalable and investable startups with ambitious founders. Startups must have operated for three years or less and show traction in sales or users. They need at least two full-time founders and a team leader who can live in Puerto Rico for 16 weeks.
Companies must be incorporated in Puerto Rico or the US, or be authorized to do business there if selected. They should be raising, or plan to raise, a pre-seed or seed round within six months of the start. Non-US founders need a US visa, usually B1/B2.
How the Parallel18 program works
P18 runs in three parts. Phase Zero is a four-week virtual due diligence term. Up to 30 startups attend online meetings and workshops while Parallel18 judges their investment readiness.
Completing it is required to move on. Next, a selection committee picks a cohort of up to 18 startups. Some teams have an extra interview.
The selected startups receive the $100,000 SAFE investment and start a 16-week curriculum in person in Puerto Rico, with about four to six hours a week of program time. The curriculum covers growth, fundraising and market entry, with mentors and local partners. Startups are notified of their status after each phase.
After graduation, alumni that stay in Puerto Rico can seek co-investment from Parallel18 Ventures.
