Techstars Application Questions: The Full List, Deadlines and Tips (2026)

Updated November 2026. Questions come from Techstars' official application preview; deal terms, deadlines and timelines from Techstars' own pages and help center.

Techstars runs more than a dozen accelerators around the world, and one application covers all of them. You fill in the form once, pick up to three programs, and Techstars reviews you for each. This guide lists every question on the form, the current deadlines and how to write answers that stand out.

The quick facts:

  • Current term deadline: November 18, 2026, at 11:59pm Pacific, for programs starting March 8, 2027, including New York City, Boston, London, Chicago and Techstars Anywhere. Demo Day is June 3, 2027.
  • One application, up to three programs. Applying to more programs does not improve your odds.
  • Time needed: Techstars says one to four hours the first time.
  • The deal: $220,000, as a $200,000 uncapped MFN SAFE plus $20,000 for a minimum of 5% equity.

The Techstars application questions

Techstars publishes its form in an application preview. It has three parts.

Part 1: Founder profile (about 3 to 5 minutes)

  • First name, last name and title
  • Contact email and phone number
  • Current location
  • LinkedIn URL
  • Working on your startup full time?

Part 2: Company information (about 20 to 30 minutes)

  • Startup name and startup URL
  • What year was your company founded?
  • What problem is your company looking to solve?
  • What is your company going to make to solve this problem?
  • Startup incorporation information (if applicable)
  • What industries are relevant to your company?
  • Product demo video, pitch deck, and team introduction video
  • What makes your team a winning team?
  • Share any traction you have
  • Share any revenue and funding you have
  • How do you (or will you) make money? How much could you make?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • Who are your competitors or could become your competitors?
  • What is your competitive advantage?
  • Why is now the right time for your startup?
  • What is your customer acquisition strategy?
  • What are your next major company milestones?

Techstars tells applicants to watch the character limits on each answer, so write short answers first and expand only where it helps.

Part 3: Program selection (optional, about 3 to 5 minutes)

Pick up to three accelerators in order of preference. If you skip it, Techstars staff match you to a program. You can update your answers after submitting.

Videos and pitch deck

The demo video and team video are optional: Techstars says you can submit without them. Still, Techstars managing directors call the video one of the most important parts of the application, so make one if you can.

  • Keep it simple. Techstars' advice: be yourself, don't read your pitch from a screen, and don't worry about production quality.
  • All founders on camera. If you live in different places, each record a part and join them, or record a video call.
  • Keep it short. A minute or two that shows who you are and why you are building this is enough.

How Techstars picks companies

Techstars is unusually direct about what it looks for: "team, team, team, market, progress, idea, in that order." That shapes how to write the application:

  • "What makes your team a winning team?" is the most important answer. Explain why this team, with these backgrounds, will win in this market, with specifics: years in the industry, things you built, customers you already know.
  • Traction answers need numbers. Users, revenue, growth rate, pilots, waitlist. If you are pre-traction, say what you have validated and how.
  • Name real competitors. Techstars' advice: never say you have no competition.
  • Be brief. "Long rambling answers are never effective."
  • Be honest. Techstars says "I don't know" is as relevant an answer as any, and that persistence and the ability to take feedback are among the qualities it looks for most.

Deadlines and programs

Each Techstars program publishes its own deadline, and applications close at 11:59pm Pacific on that date. Applications run in terms, and a new term usually opens about a month after the previous one closes.

The current term closes November 18, 2026, with programs starting March 8, 2027:

ProgramFormat
Techstars NYCHybrid, founders based anywhere
Techstars BostonIn person
Techstars LondonIn person
Techstars ChicagoIn person
Techstars AnywhereRemote-first, with 3 in-person offsites

Techstars also runs industry programs, such as healthcare, energy, food and space, and city programs including Boulder and Tokyo, on their own schedules. Check each program page for its dates.

After you apply

Techstars says interview invitations can arrive one to four weeks after the application deadline, and it aims to notify interviewees within four weeks. There are first- and second-round interviews, held virtually, then a screening committee. Each program lasts three months of mentorship-driven support, ending in Demo Day.

The Techstars deal

Most Techstars accelerators invest $220,000:

  • $200,000 on an uncapped MFN SAFE.
  • $20,000 through a post-money convertible equity agreement.

Techstars receives a minimum of 5% of your company plus whatever the uncapped SAFE converts into. Asia-Pacific programs offer a $100,000 SAFE instead.

Draft your Techstars application faster

The SaaSOffers Application Kit has Techstars' questions built in. Fill one founder profile, or upload your deck, and it drafts every answer from your facts only, with placeholders where something is missing. You edit and submit yourself, and the same profile drafts your YC, Seedcamp and other applications too.

Compare programs with the Accelerator Finder, see the Techstars profile, and if you are also applying to YC, read our YC application questions guide. While you build, claim $500,000+ in startup software credits on SaaSOffers.
