Founders building coding copilots, research agents, or anything requiring multi-step reasoning often migrate workloads to Claude after starting on OpenAI.

The criticisms are honest. Claude's API ergonomics are slightly less polished than OpenAI's — the SDK ecosystem is smaller, structured outputs and tool-use semantics differ in subtle ways that catch teams transitioning. Per-token pricing is similar to GPT-4 family (Claude Sonnet at $3/$15 per 1M, Haiku at $1/$5) but the prompt caching is unusually generous (90% discount on cached portions), making Claude meaningfully cheaper for long-context applications than naive token-counting suggests.
