What is Runware?

Runware is an AI inference platform. It gives you one API for generating and editing images, video, audio, 3D assets and text with language models. You send tasks to one endpoint with one key and get one invoice. The platform lists more than 400,000 models on that endpoint, which covers hosted models, partner models, community models and models you upload yourself.

The product has two sides. The first is the Models API. You pick a model, send a request over REST or WebSocket, and receive the result directly or through a per-task webhook. You can batch tasks of different types in a single request, so an image, a video and a voiceover can come from one call. On open models you get full parameter control, including stacked LoRAs and VAE swaps.

The second side is compute. Runware runs serverless GPUs where you bring your own container and model weights. Serverless is billed per second and scales to zero when idle, so you do not pay for a GPU that sits unused. If your volume is steady, you can reserve capacity for a term, either on serverless or as a dedicated bare-metal cluster. Runware states that bare-metal clusters start at 72 GPUs, so that option is for larger teams.

Around the API there are tools: a playground for testing models, an MCP server, a CLI, skills files for coding agents, LoRA training, model serving and model upload. The MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor and other MCP clients call the platform directly.

On the business side, Runware lists SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certification and GDPR compliance. Enterprise options include SSO and SAML, MFA, EU and US data residency, and Zero Data Retention. Runware's own homepage states 99.99% uptime over the last 90 days and more than 10 billion inference requests served. Those are the company's figures, not ours.

What does the Runware Startup Program give you?

The Startup Program gives early-stage companies platform credits. The credits work across the whole platform: model APIs, serverless and compute. You use them at standard pricing, so a credit is worth the same as a dollar of normal spend.

There are three tiers. Starter needs no deposit and gives up to $1,000 in free credits. Growth and Scale ask you to deposit money first, and Runware adds bonus credits on top. The more you deposit, the better the rate.

The terms are simple:

  • Credits do not expire on any tier. That includes Starter credits and bonus credits.
  • Runware takes no equity.
  • Deposits and bonus credits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • A deposit is a prepaid top-up on your company's Runware account. You pay it before the bonus is issued.

Runware also says it may ask to feature your product as a case study, or request a logo and a short quote. That is agreed with you after acceptance. It is not a condition you sign up to on day one, but expect the conversation.

One point to be clear about. This page on SaaSOffers links to the official program. There is no promo code and no special SaaSOffers bonus. You apply through Runware's own form and the terms are Runware's terms.

The three tiers

Scale$50,000$30,000$80,000+60%Seed to Series A companies running inference in production

Starter

Starter is the entry point. You pay nothing and Runware scores your application. The award comes in $100 steps, up to $1,000. The amount is not fixed. It depends on how Runware scores your product, your traction and how clearly you explain where inference fits in what you build. Starter credits are added straight to your Runware account.

Growth

Growth is for teams that already have a product in use and expect real spend. You deposit $25,000 and Runware adds $10,000, so you start with $35,000. That is a 40% bonus on the deposit. The deposit is not free money. It is prepaid usage that you will spend anyway if your product works.

Scale

Scale is for seed to Series A companies with inference running in production. You deposit $50,000 and Runware adds $30,000, so you start with $80,000. That is a 60% bonus. Runware labels it as the best value tier on its page.

Who qualifies?

Runware sets conditions that apply to every tier:

  • Your company is no later than Series A.
  • You have a Runware account, since credits are awarded there.
  • You have a real product. It can be live, or a credible MVP in production or beta. An idea on paper is too early.
  • Generative AI inference is a meaningful part of what you ship. That means image, video, audio, 3D or language generation.
  • You can be verified. You need a business email on your company's own domain and a live website. Personal email addresses are declined.
  • You plan to integrate Runware in the coming months, and someone on your team will do the work.

Venture backing is not required. Starter and Growth are aimed at bootstrapped and pre-seed teams. Scale is for seed to Series A.

If you have raised beyond Series A, the program is not for you. Runware asks those companies to contact sales about volume pricing and reserved capacity.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Create a Runware account. Credits are awarded to an account, so set one up first. Use your company email.
  2. Open the official Startup Program page. Use the link on this page. The application form is on that page.
  3. Choose a tier. Starter if you want no deposit. Growth or Scale if you are ready to prepay and want the bonus.
  4. Fill in the form. It asks for your name, work email, job title, company name, website and LinkedIn profile. It asks for your last funding round and total funding raised. It asks what your company does, your current traction, what you plan to build with Runware, your expected generative AI usage and whether you have used Runware before. There is one optional field for anything else. Runware says the form takes about ten minutes.
  5. Wait for the reply. Runware answers by email, usually within a week. If something is unclear, the page says they will ask rather than decline.
  6. Receive the credits. For Starter, the credits are added to your account. For Growth and Scale, you top up your account with the deposit and Runware then adds the bonus credits.

How to get approved

Runware does not publish a scoring rubric beyond the criteria above. For Starter it says applications are scored on the product, the traction and how clearly you describe where inference fits. It also says more detail and evidence can raise the award. These tips follow from that.

Apply with a company email. A personal address is declined. Use a mailbox on your own domain and make sure the website is live and matches the company name in the form.

Show a working product. A link to a live app, a beta signup or a demo video beats a description. Runware excludes ideas on paper, so give proof that users can touch the thing.

Put numbers in the traction field. State users, signups, paying customers, monthly generations or revenue if you have them. Use real figures only. A short, accurate line is better than a padded one.

Be specific about where inference fits. Say which modality you use (image, video, audio, 3D or text), which step of your product calls it and how often. A sentence like "we generate one product photo per listing, about 5,000 listings a month" tells Runware more than "we use AI".

Estimate your usage. The form asks for expected generative AI usage. Give a monthly range and say how you reached it. Starter awards in $100 steps, so a clear case for a bigger number can move the award up.

Name the integration plan. Runware expects you to integrate within the coming months and to have someone on the team who will do it. Say who, and when you plan to start.

Mention prior use. If you already tested Runware in the playground or on the free credit, say so. It shows intent.

Use the optional field. Add a link to your product, a launch post or a short note on what you will build. More evidence is what the Starter scoring rewards.

Pick the right tier. Do not apply for Scale if you are pre-launch. Growth and Scale are for teams with a product in use and spend ahead. If you are not ready to deposit, apply for Starter.

What can you build with it?

Because Runware covers many modalities through one API, the credits fit many kinds of products. Here are practical examples, all based on the modalities the platform lists.

  • Image generation apps. Product photos, avatars, thumbnails, ad creative and design tools. Image models are priced per image on the Runware pricing page.
  • Image editing. Background changes, upscaling and edits driven by a prompt. The platform lists editing models alongside generation models.
  • Video tools. Short clips, ad variations, upscaling and video editing. Video is priced per second or per clip.
  • Voice and audio. Voiceovers and narration. Audio is priced per character.
  • 3D assets. Generating 3D models for games, e-commerce and AR. Runware lists a 3D model in its own cost comparison.
  • Language features. Chat, summaries and agents using language models, priced per million tokens with input, output and cache reads billed separately.
  • Custom models. Run your own container and weights on serverless GPUs, or upload a model and serve it through the same API.
  • Coding agents. Use the MCP server, CLI and skills files to connect agents to the platform.

The pricing page shows 50 of 403 priced models. Some examples from it: a FLUX 3 Image Klein image at 512 by 512 is listed at $0.003 per image, and a 480p clip on P-Video-2-Pro at $0.01 per second. Prices change, so check the live page before you plan a budget. Serverless GPUs are listed per second, for example an L40s at $1.60 per hour and an H100 at $3.95 per hour.

Runware vs running your own GPUs

Running your own GPUs means renting or buying hardware, setting up drivers and containers, loading model weights, and building queueing and scaling. You pay for idle time unless you build autoscaling. You also own the uptime problem.

Runware's serverless option removes part of that. You still bring your own container and weights if you want, but the GPUs are Runware's, billing is per second and the workload scales to zero when idle. For teams with spiky traffic, that matters more than the hourly rate.

The Models API goes further. You do not manage a GPU at all. You call a model by name and pay per image, per second of video or per token.

Own hardware can still win in some cases. If you run at high, steady utilization all day, a reserved or dedicated setup can cost less per hour. Runware itself sells reserved capacity for that reason. If you need a custom stack that no hosted provider supports, running your own machines gives you full control.

For most early-stage teams, the main cost of self-hosting is engineering time. Credits only help if you spend them, and the API route gets you to a working feature faster.

Runware vs other inference APIs

Facts only. Runware's pitch is breadth and one integration. It lists image, video, audio, 3D and language models on a single endpoint, and lets you batch different modalities in one request. Many other inference APIs focus on a narrower set of model types, so check what the one you are comparing offers.

Runware states that it can be up to 10 times cheaper per generation than published market rates. It also compares its serverless RTX PRO 6000 at $1.99 per GPU-hour with $3.00 to $4.00 elsewhere. These are Runware's own marketing claims. Test your own workload with your own models before you trust a comparison.

Other points to check across any provider:

  • Does it host the models you need, or accept your own?
  • How is each modality billed, and are failed requests charged? Runware says only successful API requests are charged.
  • What are the rate limits and the support path?
  • Where does your data go? Runware lists EU and US data residency and Zero Data Retention for enterprise.
  • Do credits expire? Runware's do not.

The Startup Program is a real reason to test. Free Starter credits cost you nothing, so you can run the same prompts on two providers and compare quality, latency and price.

Who should skip it?

  • Companies past Series A. Runware asks you to contact sales instead.
  • Idea-stage founders. The program needs a live product or a credible MVP.
  • Products where AI inference is a minor feature. Runware wants generative AI to be a meaningful part of what you ship.
  • Teams with no one to integrate. Runware expects you to integrate in the coming months.
  • Anyone who cannot afford a deposit and wants more than Starter. Growth and Scale need $25,000 or $50,000 upfront, and that money is non-refundable.
  • Teams with a personal email only. You need a company domain and a live site.
  • Teams who need a code or a guaranteed bonus. There is no promo code, and Starter amounts depend on scoring.

Final verdict

The Runware Startup Program is a solid option if your product depends on generative AI and you are at seed or earlier. The Starter tier is the easy call. It costs nothing, it takes about ten minutes to apply and credits never expire. The cap is $1,000, so treat it as a way to test, not a funding source.

Growth and Scale are different. They are prepaid usage with a bonus of 40% or 60%. They make sense only when you already know your monthly inference spend and trust the platform. Test on Starter or the $2 in free credits for business emails first, then decide. Because deposits are non-refundable, do not deposit before you have run a real workload.

Apply through the official page, use a company email, show a working product and be specific about usage. There is no code and no special SaaSOffers bonus, so the application itself is the whole job.
