SST Pricing in May 2026

SST is genuinely free as open-source software (MIT license). There are no paid tiers — SST is a framework. SST Console (managed monitoring) is in development with pricing TBD. Real-world SST costs are $0 for the framework; you pay your AWS bill for the underlying infrastructure.

The Free & Open Source offer covers the entire framework. The strategic decision: SST's value is the developer experience for AWS Lambda-anchored apps: live development, type-safe infrastructure with TypeScript (Constructs from AWS CDK), and cleaner abstractions over raw CloudFormation. For broader serverless framework alternatives, Serverless Framework is the longer-established dominant alternative — works across AWS, Azure, GCP, and others with broader cloud support. AWS SAM (Serverless Application Model) is AWS's official alternative with native CloudFormation integration. AWS CDK (which SST builds on) handles broader infrastructure-as-code beyond serverless-specifically. For specifically Next.js on AWS, OpenNext deploys Next.js apps to AWS using SST conventions. For specifically full-stack serverless with managed deployment, Vercel and Netlify target this with simpler models. Cloudflare Workers and Workers/Pages handle serverless on Cloudflare with different architecture (edge-first). For specifically Python serverless, Zappa, AWS Chalice, and Pulumi handle Python-Lambda.
